EPA and NHTSA are jointly proposing a rule to redesign the current fuel economy label that is posted on the window sticker of all new cars and trucks sold in the U.S. Included in the proposal are new testing requirements for electric vehicles and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles. The information is reported to EPA via its Verify certification application and information management system and to the public through the label. The burden includes the incremental cost of printing color labels, the label redesign, updates to information systems, new testing-related equipment, increased time and cost of testing, and the cost of new testing capacity (facilities). The approved burden will be transferred to the Fuel Economy IC of EPA's Certification ICR, OMB 2060-0104, ICR 0783.
