Prolonged exposure to excessive
amounts of respirable coal mine dust can cause pulmonary illness,
ranging from mild impairment of lung function, chronic obstructive
pulmonary disease (COPD), and pneumoconioses, such as coal workers

health protections for coal miners by reducing their exposure to
respirable coal mine dust and lowering the risk that they will
suffer material impairment of health or functional capacity over
their working lives. This proposed rule includes new information
collection requirements.
