The Baltimore Longitudinal Study of Aging (BLSA) is the National Institute on Aging's (NIA) major clinical research program in human aging that has been conducted in Baltimore since 1958, and it is by far the oldest longitudinal study of aging in the world. The BLSA study population is a series of volunteers who join the study at different ages, and are followed indefinitely with serial evaluations over time. A consortium of scientists collects and analyzes data from this study population with the aim of characterizing normal and pathological aging.
