The form used in this collection covers consumption and stocks of 12 metal commodities, and is critical to the metals data collection effort. The data are used for military and civilian planning and Federal policy and economic decisions related to the commodities covered. Data are compiled into tables which list separate uses for each commodity and the forms consumed to make them, as well as stocks. Respondents are various industries that consume metals and ferro-alloys to make intermediate products for industrial and consumer use.

We estimate that there will be 1,828 responses totaling 1,371 burden hours. This is a net decrease of 450 responses and 338 burden hours from our previous request of 2,278 responses and 1,709 burden hours. The difference represents an adjustment where we fine-tuned the number of respondents based on our experience in administering this collection along with the types of respondent feedback, discussions, and interactions as described in our answer to item 8 in the Supporting Statement Part A..
