The Radio Frequency Identification
Equipment (RFID) systems will benefit commercial shippers and have
significant homeland security benfits by enabling the entire
contents of shipping containers to be easily and immediately
identified, and allows a determination of whether tampering with
their contents has occurred during shipping. Section 15.240
requires each grantee of certification for RFID equipment to
register the location of the equipment/devices it markets with the
Commission. The information that the grantee must supply to the FCC
when registering the device shall include the name, address and
other pertinent contact information of users, the geographic
coordinates of the operating location, and the FCC ID number(s) of
the equipment.
