Expiration Date: 02/28/2011

Welcome to the Baccalaureate and Beyond Longitudinal Study Website!

Beginning in summer 2011, the Baccalaureate and Beyond Longitudinal Study (B&B) will survey more than 1,500 bachelor's degree recipients from 150 U.S. colleges and universities to better understand the experience of graduates one year after earning a bachelor’s degree. The survey collects information about respondents’ experiences in the workforce; experiences in and plans for graduate school; earnings and expenses; family status; participation in civic activities and personal and professional goals. Data collected from B&B will help educators, researchers and policymakers at the local, state and national levels better understand the experiences of recent college graduates and what can be done to help them.

The B&B survey is now closed.  Check back in June 2011.
Thank you for your participation!

You can obtain additional information about the B&B study by using the links at the left side of this page. If you need additional assistance, send an e-mail to [email protected] or call the Help Desk toll-free at 1-877-262-4440.

According to the Paperwork Reduction Act of 1995, no persons are required to respond to a collection of information unless it displays a valid OMB control number.  The valid OMB control number for this voluntary information collection is 1850–0729.  The time required to complete this information collection is estimated to average 35 minutes per response, including the time to review instructions, gather the data needed and complete and review the information collection.  If you have any comments concerning the accuracy of the time estimate or suggestions for improving this survey, please write to: U.S. Department of Education, Washington, DC 20202–4537.  If you have any comments or concerns regarding the status of your individual submission of this survey, write directly to: The 2008-12 Baccalaureate and Beyond Longitudinal Study (B&B:08/12), National Center for Education Statistics, 1990 K Street, NW, Washington, DC  20006.

2008/12 Baccalaureate and Beyond Longitudinal Study (B&B:08/12)

Field-Test Survey Facsimile

Notes:

  • For the purposes of this document, “new items” are survey questions that haven’t been asked in either the B&B base-year (2008) or its 1st follow-up (2009).

  • Over the past month, all survey questions (“new” and “old” alike) were tested in a cognitive lab setting; a full listing of these can be found in the facsimile following this table of contents.. (A summary report describing the results of the cognitive testing will be made available to NCES 5/20/2011.)

  • The following table of contents is meant to act as a “cheat sheet”, if you will; It briefly describes our proposed new items for the field test. Hopefully, it will allow you to easily identify and navigate to the questionsthat haven’t previously been through OMB review.

  • You’ll notice in the “Source” column four different notations:

    • New: Cog-labbed—these point to survey questions that were developed by B&B project staff in-response to the suggestions of our Technical Review Panel (TRP). And, again, these questions have been cognitively tested;

    • NPSAS:12—B&B is “borrowing” these questions from the 2011-2012 National Postsecondary Student Aid Study. They were cognitively tested, approved by OMB, and are being field-tested currently;

    • ATES—theseare questions developed for our Adult Training and Education Survey, which received OMB clearance. They were cognitively tested too;

    • SEPT—these come from BLS’Survey of Employer-Provided Training. They were modified slightly to fit our cohort and survey logic;

    • ELS:2012—these come from NCES’ Education Longitudinal Study, Third Follow-up (ELS:2002/2012);

  • Also, all new items have been highlighted within the facsimile (pp. 5—125).
