The Commission adopted a Third Report and Order in PS Docket No. 06-229, FCC 11-6, that requires public safety broadband networks to employ the Long Term Evolution (LTE) broadband standard, and to certify to the Commission's Public Safety and Homeland Security Bureau that their networks will support required LTE interfaces in compliance with Release 8 or higher of 3GPP standards prior to the date their networks achieve service availability.
