The Congressionally mandated George E. Brown, Jr. Network for Earthquake Engineering Simulation (NEES) was established by the National Science Foundation (NSF) in order to upgrade, link, and integrate a system of geographically distributed experimental facilities for earthquake engineering testing of full-sized structures and their components and partial-scale physical models. NSF has initiated an evaluation of the program in order to inform decision making regarding whether and how NSF should continue to support the NEES network after the current operations award expires in 2014. As part of the evaluation, NSF seeks approval to conduct telephone interviews with NEES consortium leaders and facility managers and to conduct a web-based census survey of earthquake engineering investigators who have been funded by and/or made use of NEES facilities.
