Dear Mr. Hartnell,

We appreciate your willingness to provide input for our distiller’s grain survey. NASS previously conducted this survey in 2007 for the reference year 2006. Since then, we have heard from several experts from around the country as to some of the innovations and changes within this industry. As a starting point we are using the questionnaires that we used in 2007 to build on. We will carefully consider all feedback we receive from all branches of this industry.

The following link http://usda.mannlib.cornell.edu/usda/current/EthFeed/EthFeed-06-29-2007_revision.pdf will take you to the results of the previous survey and the questionnaires that were previously used.

As to your question about the Energy Independence and Security Act (EISA), you are correct. The final version of the EISA specifies a minimum total amount of U.S. cellulosic and other biofuel production to reach 36 billion gallons by 2022. We accidentally referenced an earlier version of this ruling where President Bush had set the target at 20 billion gallons by 2017 in his State of the Union Address on January 31, 2006.
