U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary members
report observations of changes that require additions, corrections,
or revisions to nautical charts on the NOAA Form 77-5. The U.S.
Power Squadrons use a Web site to report the same. The information
provided is used by NOS cartographers to maintain and prepare new
additions of nautical charts that are used nationwide by commercial
and recreational navigators.

The decrease in burden hours
from 4,400 to 2,540 is based on fewer responses received in the
past three years than was estimated in 2007: previous estimated
responses of 2,050 minus current estimate of 1,200 makes a
difference of 850 responses 690 fewer for USPS and 160 fewer for
USGAUX. Saving 2 hours each on the 690 responses, and 3 hours each
on the 160, results in a total decrease of 1,380 + 480 =
1,860.
