Title 28, United States Code, Section 534, allows the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to acquire, collect, classify, and preserve identification/information, criminal identification, crime, and other records. The FBI permits such exchange of records and information with, and for the official use of, authorized officials of the Federal Government; the States and cities; and penal and other institutions. The Criminal Justice and Investigative Services (CJIS) Division, FBI, in collaboration with the Subcommittee on Forensic Science, wishes to identify agencies that employ persons that provide fingerprint comparisons in order to be proactive in meeting training and budgetary needs based on the recommendations of the National Academy of Science (NAS) report, Strengthening Forensic Science in the United States: A Path Forward.
