The Corporation for National and Community Service (the Corporation) supports community service initiatives through its programs and special initiatives. These include initiatives such as the 9/11 Day of Service, the Martin Luther King Day of Service, AmeriCorps Week, Senior Corps Week and others. It is the overarching goal of the Corporation to increase community service in the United States and these initiatives are a resource to introduce many people to community service projects. In order to gauge our success, to report our outcomes, to engage media effectively, and to deploy resources efficiently it is important for us to be aware of projects taking place as part of these initiatives. We also engage members of Congress and other government officials in local service projects. Projects voluntarily inform us of their projects. This information is critical to the Corporation and particularly to the Office of External Affairs for the successful completion of their mission. The information will be utilized by the Offices of External Affairs primarily to monitor, summarize and report on projects to various internal offices as well as for media, press and other external inquiries. The information will not be listed publicly. This request adds new questions and deletes outdated questions in order to align with the Corporation's strategic plan.

The Corporation seeks to renew the Day of Service Registration and Reporting (Serve.gov). The purpose of this information collection is to help expand volunteering throughout the country. Revisions in the original collection were made based on feedback and input received from the Board of Directors and the external partners. CNCS will no longer be collecting information for the purpose of posting volunteering opportunities for the general public. Numerous organizations provide this service for free. Much of the information we have been collecting is no longer useful. We will continue to use this information collection for reporting purposes. CNCS stakeholders such as grantees will use it to share activities, promote service and volunteering, and highligh best practices and innovation. We will use this information measure success, for media purposes, for congressional response, and other critical tasks. The submitted collection reflects the minimum information we need to perform these tasks.
