Introductory email to state health departments
Dear Dr. X,
I hope this email finds you well. I am an epidemiologist with the Enteric Diseases Epidemiology Branch at CDC. We are looking to update our national picture of the epidemiology and laboratory surveillance capacity of State Health Departments for Campylobacter and Shiga toxin-producing E. coli (STEC). We are reaching
out to all state health departments in the US to gather information on the Campylobacter and STEC
surveillance and reporting nationally. I wasn’t sure who the best point of contact would be regarding enteric disease surveillance in your state, so if it should be directed to someone else, please let me know. The Enterics Diseases Laboratory Branch at CDC is simultaneously sending out a Laboratory module to all state public health laboratories to gather information on laboratory capacity for Campylobacter and STEC testing in your state.
We have designed an online questionnaire using SurveyMonkey containing 13 questions regarding: 1) the reporting history of Campylobacter in your state 2) the reporting practices regarding Campylobacter cases and outbreaks in your state to CDC and 3) the testing practices for Campylobacter and STEC isolates in your state. I have attached below a link to the module which should take on average 10 minutes. In addition to updating our knowledge of how Campylobacter and STEC surveillance is being conducted at the state level, we will summarize the responses from all contacted health departments and send that out in a final report.
Many thanks in advance for your assistance and please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions, Aimee Geissler, PhD, MPH
