Who must comply?

Owners, masters and agents of lightering vessels.

What is this collection about?

An owner, master or agent of a vessel must provide the Coast Guard (CG) pre-arrival information in advance of lightering operations.

Where do I find the requirements for this information?

Title 33 CFR Part 156 is available at— http://ecfr.gpoaccess.gov, select TITLE 33 – NAVIGATION AND NAVIGABLE WATERS, and follow to section 156.215.

When must information be submitted to the Coast Guard?

The information must be provided to the CG at least 24-hours in advance of lightering operations.

How is the information submitted?

In writing or electronically by--telephone, marine radio, fax or e-mail. Information is submitted to the CG Captain of the Port (COTP) at the local Sector Office.

What happens when complete information is received?

The CG will review the information for completeness, and schedule a vessel boarding if appropriate.
