What is Defense Manpower Data Center (DMDC)? Top
• DMDC maintains the largest archive of personnel, manpower, training, and financial data in Department of Defense (DoD).

DMDC also conducts Joint-Service surveys including the Status of Forces Surveys, QuickCompass, and Human Relations
Surveys for the Department of Defense. To learn more, visit the DMDC Web site.

What is the QuickCompass (QC) Program? Top
• QuickCompass (QC) is a DoD personnel program that features Web-based surveys sponsored by the Under Secretary of
Defense for Personnel and Readiness [USD(P&R)].
• These surveys enable the DoD to regularly assess the attitudes and opinions of the DoD community - active duty and Reserve
component members, and DoD civilian employees - on the full range of personnel issues.
How do I know this is an official, approved DoD survey? Top
• In accordance with DoD Instruction 8910.01, all data collection in the Department must be licensed and show that license as a

Report Control Symbol (RCS) with an expiration date. The RCS for this survey is RCS# DD-P&R(AR)2145, expiring
02/28/2011.
How did you pick me? Top
• DMDC uses well-established, scientific procedures to randomly select a sample that represents the population of U.S. business
establishments that employ at least one employee based on combinations of organizational characteristics (e.g., industry,
number of employees).
Why should I participate? Top
• This is your chance to have your business' experiences and perspectives included in the design of policies and programs to
make the employment of National Guard and Reserve (NGR) members more productive and convenient for both employers
and NGR members.

QNSE1001 FAQ 08/27/2010

• Even if your business does not currently employ an NGR member, this is your change to affect policies that may impact your
business in the future.
• Your responses on this survey make a difference.
How do I participate? Top
• The survey will be available at this Web site around August 2, 2010. Currently you may (1) read the Privacy Advisory
Statement, (2) verify contact information, and (3) provide e-mail address(es) so we can notify you when the survey opens.
What is [email protected]? Top
• The official e-mail address for communicating with employers about QuickCompass (QC) surveys. "QNSE" is short for

QuickCompass National Survey of Employers.
Why am I being asked to use the Web? Top
• Web administration enables us to get survey results to senior Defense leaders faster.
Why are you using a .net instead of a .mil domain to field your survey? Top
• The survey is administered by our contractor, Data Recognition Corporation, an experienced survey operations company. The
survey collection tool starts on a .mil site within DMDC. Once you enter your ticket number you are redirected to a contractor
site which uses a .net domain. This allows everyone to access the survey, even from a non-government computer.
Do I have to take the survey in one sitting? Top
• No, it is not necessary to complete the survey in one sitting. From any survey item, just click the Save and Return Later
button. All of your responses are saved. When you return to the Web site, enter your Ticket Number and PIN. You will restart the survey at the point you stopped.
Why does the survey ask questions about my business? Top
• DMDC reports overall results, as well as by other characteristics, such as industry, number of employees, etc. To complete
these analyses, we must ask respondents for these types of descriptive information. Please note this survey will not ask for
any financial data relating to your business.
• Analyzing results in this way provides Defense leaders information about the attitudes and concerns of all subgroups of
businesses so that no groups are overlooked.
• Sometimes sensitive questions are asked in order to improve personnel policies, programs, and practices. As with all
questions on the surveys, your responses will be held in confidence.
Will my answers be kept private? Top
• Your privacy will be safeguarded to the fullest extent of the law.
Can I withdraw my answers once I have started the survey? Top
• If you wish to withdraw your answers, please notify the Survey Processing Center prior to XX/XX/XX by sending an e-mail
to [email protected] or calling, toll-free 1-800-881-5307. Include your name, Ticket Number and PIN.
Will I ever see the results of the survey? Top
• DMDC posts survey results on the following Web site:
