TITLE OF INFORMATION COLLECTION:

NLM SIS Anatomy Physiology Portal Resources Survey

PURPOSE:

NLM’s Division of Specialized Information Services (SIS) produces health information resources for special populations, including the population of K-12 students and teachers. As part of this information provision and outreach, SIS periodically assesses teachers’ needs for new resources and resource topics of interest. At several recent science teacher conferences, a number of attendees spontaneously approached SIS stuff, asking for a high quality anatomy and physiology portal. The purpose of this assessment is to validate this request with a larger, more diverse, less-self-selected sample and understand desired characteristics of such a portal. If significant need is identify, SIS will develop a resource to support it.

DESCRIPTION OF RESPONDENTS:

Respondents will be middle and high school science teachers, recruited via education listserves and the social media.

If the answer is yes, please provide a description of both below (or attach the sampling plan)? If the answer is no, please provide a description of how you plan to identify your potential group of respondents and how you will select them?

The total populations of interests for this survey are all middle and high school science teachers and junior college teachers in the US. While obtaining a random sample is not feasible, we expect to obtain a representative sample by recruiting via several listservs and the social media. One of the listservs is our own, consisting of teachers who sign up during conferences where we conduct outreach, as well as directly via our educational websites. We also plan to work with National Association of Biology Teachers (NABT), asking them to distribute the survey to their members via their listservs. NABT has collaborated with SIS on a needs assessment in the past. We will also use SIS Facebook and Twitter accounts to promote the survey.
