Health Effects from FEMA
Trailers after Hurricanes
Katrina & Rita
Did you live in a FEMA-supplied trailer after Hurricanes Katrina and Rita? If so, a
representative from the Hurricanes Katrina and Rita Housing Exposures (KARHE)
Registry may be contacting you soon. The KARHE Registry is a list of people who stayed
in FEMA trailers after the Hurricanes. The Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease
Registry (ATSDR), a federal health agency in the U.S. Department of Health and Human
Services, is creating the KARHE Registry to find out if Gulf Coast residents are having
any health effects from staying in the trailers.
In the coming weeks, you or someone you know may receive a letter or phone call
asking you to take part in the KARHE Registry. Even if you are not sick, you can provide
helpful information about whether living in the trailers might have affected the health
of Gulf Coast residents.
If you are eligible and agree to take part in the Registry, just 30 minutes of your time to
answer questions over the phone is all it takes.
To learn more about the KARHE Registry, please visit www.KARHE.org or call
toll-free 1-800-123-4567.
