In 2005, Hurricanes Katrina and Rita struck the Gulf Coast. In the aftermath, an estimated 375,000 persons occupied temporary housing units supplied by FEMA. Persons living in these units may have been exposed to high levels of formaldehyde. We propose to develop a pilot registry called the Katrina and Rita Exposure (KARE) Registry that will serve as a starting point to see if a full registry is feasible due to the time that has passed between the hurricanes and data collection (7 years). This pilot registry will consist of people who occupied FEMA supplied temporary housing after Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. CATI technology will be used to collect the data.
