You spoke with Michael Rand last week regarding the BJS vicitmization study. During that conversation,
he indicated I would send you the initial contact letter to be mailed to households selected for
participation in the study. The letter is attached to this email, but I want to mention two additional
items. First, the letter will be cognitively tested with focus groups beginnning next month. This process
will insure that we are using a letter that resonates with people. Second, any findings garned from the
cognitive interviews and focus groups will be used to refine the letter prior to use in the study.
