The U.S. and the European Union (EU) finalized an equivalency arrangement, under which organic products certified to the USDA organic standards or EU organic standards may be sold, labeled, and represented as organic in both countries as long as the terms of the arrangement are met.
We are requesting emergency review and approval of a new information collection. This new information collection addresses new reporting requirements under the recently signed EU – U.S. Organic Equivalence Arrangement. Effective June 1, 2012, this arrangement will allow organic products produced, processed or packaged in the U.S. or European Union (EU) to be sold as “organic” in both countries without additional certification. This arrangement was entered into by U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) under the authority of the Organic Foods Production Act of 1990 (OFPA) (7 U.S.C. 6501 et seq.).
