The information collected is to assure that railroad signal systems are tested and maintained in a safe and suitable condition and that they provide the safety intended in the Signal Inspection Act. Also, the information collected is to assure that modifications or malfunctions of signaly systems are reported.

The decrease in burden is due solely to adjustments. ****These adjustments are detailed in the table provided in answer to question number 15 of the Supporting Justification. Total adjustments decreased the burden by 881 hours and by 70 responses. The current OMB inventory displays a total burden of 446,518 hours, while the present submission exhibits a burden total of 445,637 hours. Hence, there is a decrease in burden of 881 hours. There is no change in burden costs to respondents.
