Abstract: Under the Attorney General's discretionary authority to share forfeited assets under 18 U.S.C. § 981(e)(2) and 21 U.S.C. § 881(e)(1)(A), the Asset Forfeiture and Money Laundering Section of the Criminal Division, would require accounting information from state and local law enforcement agencies which participate in the Department's Equitable Sharing Program in order to ensure compliance with Program guidelines.

Short Statement: The burden increase was necessitated by the addition of numerous participating agencies (I think about 1,000) since the last time the form was authorized. The "burden" is composed of the aggregate amount of time the agencies will spend filling out the form. We have estimated about 30 minutes each, so each additional agency increases our burden by that amount.

On behalf of this Federal agency, I certify that the collection of information encompassed by this request complies with 5 CFR 1320.9 and the related provisions of 5 CFR 1320.8(b)(3).
