MSHA will use a process that includes
a written cleanup program for each mine that will be maintained in
the underground mine file at the appropriate District Office. This
cleanup program will be used as a tool to help abate significant or
persistent problems. This tool will give the Agency leverage in
abating violations by including cleanup program revisions to
address hazards detected in the mine. Mine operators will need to
show compliance in order to abate violations.
