Abstract: Foodborne illness outbreaks are a significant problem in the U.S. Reducing the number of these outbreaks requires identification and understanding of the environmental factors that cause these outbreaks. Information on environmental factors can be obtained through environmental assessments routinely conducted by local, state, territorial, or tribal food safety programs during outbreak investigations. Although some data obtained through outbreak investigations are collected through CDC surveillance systems, data from environmental assessments are not collected through these systems. Thus, an information system that will allow the collection and analysis of these environmental assessment data is needed, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) developed the National Voluntary Environmental Assessment Information System (NVEAIS). This submission requests OMB clearance for NVEAIS for 3 years. This data collection supports CDC's research agenda goal of "Decreasing health risks from environmental exposures," as foodborne illness are environmental exposure health risks.
