The DEA is congressionally mandated to prepare high priority strategic drug intelligence in order to provide lawmakers with the most current information on availability, demand, production, cultivation, transportation, and distribution, as well as the effects of drugs on the abusers and society.
The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) has assumed responsibility for producing domestic strategic intelligence from the National Drug Intelligence Center (NDIC).
