United States (U.S.) vessels fishing
on the high seas in the Western and Central Pacific Fisheries
(WCPF) Convention Area are required to operate position locating
devices as part of the vessel monitoring systems of the National
Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the WCPF
Commission. The vessel position reports are used by NOAA and the
Commission to help ensure compliance with domestic laws and the
Commission's conservation and management measures, and are needed
in order for the U.S. to comply with its obligations under the WCPF
Convention.
