Justification for Non-Substantive Changes for
Social Security Number Verification Services
20 CFR 401.45
OMB No. 0960-0660
Revisions to the Collection Instrument
Change #1: Removal of the Automated Telephone Option in mid-February 2013.
Justification #1: As we mentioned in the recently approved Addendum to the Supporting Statement (see below), SSA made a formal decision to remove the automated telephone option for the Social Security Number Verification Services (SSNVS) called Telephone Number Employer Verification (TNEV). We based this decision on the low volume of usage.
Justification for Resubmission of the Collection within One Year of OMB Approval
As per the original revisions we mentioned in the information collection request OMB approved on September 25, 2012, SSA intended to discontinue TNEV at the end of FY 2012. However, due to unforeseen changes in our new automated telephone system, the Citizen Access Routing Enterprise Through 2020 project, we need to delay the discontinuation of TNEV. As mentioned above, we anticipate discontinuing TNEV in mid-February 2013.
Through this Change Request, we are asking OMB to approve the new TNEV discontinuance date.
