COPS Office grantees that are selected
for in-depth monitoring of their grant implementation and equipment
grantees that report using COPS funds to implement a criminal
intelligence system will be required to respond. The Monitoring
Information Collections include one type of information collection:
the Monitoring Request for Documentation.
Although the 28 C.F.R. Part 23
is no longer in use for the Monitoring Collection, the total burden
hours has increased from 320 to 450 hours annually. This is due to
the Monitoring Request for Documentation instrument being utilized
much more frequently in its place (from 40 respondents to 150
annually, with 3 hours to complete each instrument). The Grants
Monitoring Division (GMD) is mandated to provide grantee oversight
each fiscal year, and this estimate of 150 grantees is a consistent
number of respondents that are required to respond.
On behalf of this Federal agency, I certify that
the collection of information encompassed by this request complies
with 5 CFR 1320.9 and the related provisions of 5 CFR
1320.8(b)(3).
The following is a summary of the topics, regarding
the proposed collection of information, that the certification
covers:
(i) Why the information is being collected;
(ii) Use of information;
(iii) Burden estimate;
(iv) Nature of response (voluntary, required for a
benefit, or mandatory);
(v) Nature and extent of confidentiality; and
(vi) Need to display currently valid OMB control
number;
If you are unable to certify compliance with any of
these provisions, identify the item by leaving the box unchecked
