In accordance
with 5 CFR 1320, the information is approved for three years. As
part of its next request to extend approval, USDA must confirm the
accuracy of the burden estimates and provide better estimates of
whether the burden is associated with recordkeeping or with third
party disclosure by actively conducting outreach to the regulated
community. As part of this effort, USDA should also consider
whether burden can be reduced or otherwise minimized.

To notify consumers of the country of
origin of muscle cuts of beef (including veal), lamb, chicken,
goat, and pork; ground beef, ground lamb, ground chicken, ground
goat, and ground pork; wild and farm-raised fish and shellfish;
perishable agricultural commodities; macadamia nuts; pecans;
ginseng; and peanuts.
There is a decrease of
-6,236,954 burden hours due to a decrease in firms that are subject
to COOL and would need to establish a record collection system.
Since the information collection requirement for the COOL
regulations was part of the initial rule, established firms should
not have any additional burden hours due to establishing a system
record keeping system.
