Abstract: Recent amendments to the Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act require that the Marine Recreational Fisheries Statistics Survey (MRFSS) be upgraded and that future fishing surveys target anglers licensed or registered at the State or Federal level. Several pilot studies to test new survey methods have been conducted. This request is to implement a longitudinal survey for collecting recreational fishing participation data. Results of this data collection effort will be used to assess the effectiveness of the new fishing effort survey being tested for collecting recreational fishing participation data and, subsequently, to assess the properties of participation estimates obtained from the new fishing effort survey.
