The High School Longitudinal Study of2009 (HSLS:09) is a nationally rcpresentative, longitudinalstudy
ofmore than 20,000 ninth graders in 944 schools who will be followed thfough theirsecondary and
postsecondary yeals. The main study sludents were re-suNeyed in 2012 when most were high school
1'lth graders. The study focuses on understanding students' lrajectodes from the beginning of high
schoo, into postsecondary education orthe workforce and beyond. What students decide to pursue
when, why, and how arc crucial queslions for HSLS:09, especially, but not solely, in regards to science,
technology. engineering, and math (STE[,) cou.ses, majols, and etfeers. This submission amends the
clearance obtained on April 19, 2013, forthe 2013 update of HSLS:09 high school students who were
in gth grade in the base year (June 2013 - Oc{ober 2013), collection of their high school lranscripts
(Seplember 2013 - lvlay 2014), and 2nd follow-up sample panel maintenance (FT: belween 2012
Update & 2FU - Fall 2013; lvlain Study: between 2013 Update and 2FU - Fall 2014). The change
rcquest provides a rcvised plan for responsive design modelto be used in the 2013 update study and a
conesoondinq incentive plan.
