Abstract: The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) had previously suggested that the FHWA seek legislative authority to establish a mandatory tunnel inspection program similar to the National Bridge Inspections Standards (NBIS) that would identify critical inspection elements and specify an appropriate inspection frequency.
