Terms of Clearance: State is authorized to use the version of the U.S. Passport Renewal Application approved in 2011 for 60 days until February 9, 2014. Abstract: The information collected on the DS-82 is used primarily to facilitate the issuance of U.S. passports to U.S. nationals. The primary purpose for soliciting the information is to establish nationality, identity, and entitlement to the issuance of a U.S. passport, and to properly administer and enforce the laws pertaining to the issuance thereof.
