FROM THE ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR,
ECONOMIC PROGRAMS
U.S. CENSUS BUREAU
You have been selected to participate in the 2013 Annual Capital Expenditures Survey (ACES)
and the 2013 Information and Communication Technology Survey (ICTS). The ACES collects
capitalized spending for new and used structures and equipment. The ICTS is a supplement to the
ACES in that it collects both capitalized and non-capitalized spending for information and
communication technology (ICT) equipment and computer software. The ACES and ICTS data are a
key source of information about U.S. economic performance. Business investment in structures and
equipment is a key component of the official estimate of the Gross Domestic Product. The ICTS data
are very important in calculating the investment component of the Gross Domestic Product. The
ACES and ICTS data also help U.S. businesses identify market opportunities, develop new products,
and conduct strategic planning.
In an effort to conduct the ACES and ICTS in a cost-effective manner, we have developed an online
reporting system for completing the surveys that we are confident you will find easy to use. To
complete the surveys online or get assistance from the Business Help Site, go to
econhelp.census.gov/aces. Use the following User ID and Password:

These surveys are MANDATORY and must be completed by May 2, 2014.
Title 13, United States Code, Sections 131 and 182, authorizes the Census Bureau to conduct these
surveys. Sections 224 and 225, require your response. Section 9 guarantees that your response
is confidential and will only be used for statistical purposes. Applicable provisions of the law are
provided on the Business Help Site. You may use reasonable estimates if book figures are not
readily available.
THANK YOU in advance for ensuring that the results of the 2013 Annual Capital Expenditures
Survey and the 2013 Information and Communication Technology Survey are comprehensive, timely,
and reliable.
Sincerely,
