The objective of the survey is to collect information on the costs and earnings of retail businesses that sell bait, tackle, and other related equipment to saltwater recreational anglers. The survey will ask store owners/operators about their business' costs and earnings with an emphasis on those earnings derived from the sale of recreational bait, tackle, and other related equipment. The survey will also ask store owners/operators to identify the marine fisheries that they believe support the majority of their sales, if possible, and their opinions on how various factors are affecting their business. As specified in the Magnuson-Stevenson Fishery Conservation and Management Act of 1996 (and reauthorized in 2007), the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) is required to enumerate the economic impacts of the policies it implements on fishing participants and coastal communities. The data collected in this survey will be used to estimate the economic contributions and impacts of recreational fishing bait and tackle stores, and improve economic impact models of recreational fishing expenditures.
