For the purposes of this ICR, we divide this information into three categories: 1) consultative examinations (a/b/c); 2) medical evidence of record; and 3) pain/other symptoms/impairment. SSA is changing the way in which we count the number of respondents and responses for this ICR. SSA is readjusting the burden to reflect a more accurate data collection of respondents from all categories (consultative examinatons {CE} and medical evidence of record {MER} specifically); the adjustment reflects the number of collection instruments received from respondents rather than case files processed. Further, the increase in burden is due to our including the medical professional responses (i.e., MER) associated with our processing required-by-law claimant redeterminations and continuing disability reviews. We did not include this information in our burden counts for this ICR in past clearances. Including this information illustrates a more accurate burden associated with this ICR.
