Dear Dr. Embler,
The Office of the Under Secretary of Defense (Personnel and Readiness) (OUSD(P&R)) Human
Research Protection Program (HRPP) has reviewed the material submitted for the above
referenced study. We find that this study is exempt under 32 CFR 219.101 (b)(1). Prior to
implementation of any changes, please submit them to this office for review.
As principal investigator, you are responsible for ensuring that everyone involved in the conduct
of the study adheres to the approved protocol. You are also required to report any serious adverse
events or unanticipated problems and actions taken to mitigate the events to this office within 24
hours of being notified of an occurrence.
Please keep a copy of this letter in your records and include a copy in the package provided to
your Information Management Control Officer for submission to the DoD Clearance Officer.
