TITLE OF INFORMATION COLLECTION:

AmeriCorps VISTA Outreach and Recruitment Focus Groups

PURPOSE:

The purpose of the AmeriCorps VISTA Outreach and Recruitment Focus Groups are to gain a better understanding of what motivates individuals to participate in community service and what would motivate individuals to join AmeriCorps VISTA. The information that is collected from these focus groups will help AmeriCorps VISTA to better develop recruitment efforts, especially among minority and veteran populations.

DESCRIPTION OF RESPONDENTS:

The participants in these focus groups will fall into the following three categories:

1. African American males from the general population

2. Hispanic/Latino males from the general population

3. Veterans from the general population

Participants will be provided with a meal at the focus group site. Additionally, each participant will receive a $10 gift card. This amount represents the typical cost of one food item and one specialty drink at a specialty coffee shop.

Focus group participants will be recruited by contacting organizations that have a constituency which is closely aligned with the study’s targeted demographic groups. Some examples of the organizations that we will contact are below:

• Military Officers Association of America

• The 6^th Branch

• The Bob Parsons Veterans Center at the University of Baltimore

• National Association of Black Veterans

• African American fraternal organizations

• Latino Providers Network

• MANA

Once a list of potential participants has been identified through this outreach, individuals will be screened with a brief set of questions to ensure that they fit the needs of the study.

TITLE OF INFORMATION COLLECTION: Provide the name of the collection that is the subject of the request. (e.g. Comment card for soliciting feedback on xxxx)

PURPOSE: Provide a brief description of the purpose of this collection and how it will be used. If this is part of a larger study or effort, please include this in your explanation.

DESCRIPTION OF RESPONDENTS: Provide a brief description of the targeted group or groups for this collection of information. These groups must have experience with the program.
