Recent amendments to the
Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act require
that the Marine Recreational Fisheries Statistics Survey (MRFSS) be
upgraded and address concerns about potential bias in the data
collections. This address-based mail-in survey is requested to test
new methodologies for collecting fishing effort data for Hawaii
shore fishing. Results of this data collection effort will be used
to estimate the ratios of fishing effort not covered by an on-site
roving survey and compare with results from current Coastal
Household Telephone Survey.
