The purpose of this collection is to
develop and maintain a timely list of retail, wholesale, and
service establishments at which people shop for specific consumer
items. The information collected is used to select establishments
for pricing market basket items as needed for the Consumer Price
Index.

The total respondent burden
hours requested for 2015 are 11,450 for the survey overall. In 2016
total respondent burden is expected to increase slightly during the
transition to a new panel design. Once fully implemented in 2017,
total respondent burden hours are expected to return to roughly
11,750. The three year average annual burden for 2015 to 2017 is
11,818 hours which is an increase of 2,039 over the currently
approved burden of 9,779.
