The Board requires all Class I railroads (defined as carriers having revenues in excess of 250 million dollars in 1991 dollars) to report quarterly the following: (1) total monthly fuel cost; (2) gallons of fuel consumed during the month; (3) increased or decreased cost of fuel over the previous month; (4) total monthly revenue from fuel surcharges; and (5) total monthly revenue from fuel surcharges on regulated traffic only. The Board has authority to collect information about rail costs and revenues under 49 U.S.C. 11144 and 11145. The Board proposes to require respondents to
submit this report within 15 days, instead of 30 days, after the end of the quarter.
