The Fishermen's Contingency Fund
compensates United States (U.S.) commercial fishermen for loss of
or damage to their fishing vessels or fishing gear, plus 50% of
resulting economic loss, caused by oil and gas industry activities
on the U.S. Outer Continental Shelf. In order to be compensated,
fishermen must file a report and an application to National Oceanic
and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). There have been changes to
the forms based on consultation with respondents.
US Code:
43
USC 1841 Name of Law: Outer Continental Shelf Lands Act
Amendments of 1978
Adjustment: The number of
respondents/responses was changed based on the average number of
claims filed by U.S commercial fishermen in the past and
projections for the next three (3) years. The change is not the
result of a deliberate Federal government action.
