Nominations Requested for CDC’s Systematic Identification of Sexual Violence Prevention Strategies

We need your help to identify practice-based sexual violence prevention strategies!

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Division of Violence Prevention is identifying sexual violence prevention strategies developed in practice (practice-based) that are ready for more assessment. We are asking Rape Prevention and Education Program awardees and sub-awardees to nominate prevention strategies for the purposes of identifying practice-based prevention strategies that have high potential for population-level impact on SV outcomes, (2) have high potential for widespread adoption, and (3) are ready for further assessment.

Nominated strategies will be rated by a review panel, who will make recommendations to CDC to invite to participate in evaluability assessments to determine readiness for more assessment. The evaluability assessment will include a site visit from CDC staff to assess implementation, data availability, intended outcomes, and assessment capacity. We may offer ideas for program improvement and assessment design. We will also develop briefs that describe the major features of each strategy, and some strategies may be considered for future CDC assessment activities. The results and processes will be shared or published to inform SV prevention evidence base and practice.

Eligibility Criteria:

We are interested in sexual violence prevention strategies that especially promote protective factors and reduce risk factors at the community and societal levels of the Social Ecological Model. We are specifically looking for prevention strategies that focus on any of the following:

  • Creating safe and protective environments

  • Promoting healthy social norms that protect against sexual violence

  • Using gender equity approaches

Additionally, prevention strategies should be: currently implemented, practice-based, and not considered an evidence-based strategy. All nomination forms must be submitted by an RPE awardee or sub-awardee.

Nomination Form Details:

The nomination form includes information on strategy goals and focus, strategy implementation, and information collection and assessment efforts. Contact information will be requested, but all data will be reported in aggregate form and all data will be kept secure following CDC information protection and security measures to ensure protection of information. Completing a nomination form is voluntary and takes approximately 40 minutes for each nomination.
