TTB uses the information submitted on
TTB F 5120.17 to monitor wine premises operations to ensure
collection of the Federal excise tax due on the wine produced, and
to ensure wine is produced in accordance with Federal law and
regulations. TTB also uses this report to collect raw data on wine
premises activity for its monthly statistical report on wine
operations.
US Code:

USC 5367 Name of Law: Internal Revenue Code
TTB has lowered the number of
responses and the resulting burden hours because a number of
small-production wineries eligible to file excise tax returns on a
quarterly basis are now able to file their report of wine premises
operations (TTB F 5120.17) on a quarterly basis as well. As a
result, there has been a drop in the number of wineries filing on a
monthly basis; now able to file quarterly. The reduction of 961
burden hours is attributed to an adjustment in agency
estimates.
