The National Marine Fisheries Service
(NMFS) would revise regulations to implement Amendment 45 to the
Fishery Management Plan (FMP) for Bering Sea and Aleutian Islands
(BSAI) King and Tanner Crabs. Amendment 45 would establish a
process to remove the catch limits, known as sideboard limits for
certain catcher/processors using hook-and-line gear to target
Pacific cod in the Western Gulf of Alaska (GOA) Regulatory Area,
Central GOA Regulatory Area, or both, if all participants agree to
cooperatively manage their catch of Pacific cod in the GOA and
those participants notify NMFS that a legally binding agreement to
that effect has been achieved within a one-year deadline.
Therefore, NMFS is not proposing any changes to the existing
monitoring, reporting or enforcement regulations found in Part 679
or Part 680.
