Short Statement: This is a new request for information collection approval, associated with updating the regulations. While this information has been collected in the past, the agency previously determined no approval was necessary because, in collecting the information for Secretarial elections, the Department was fulfilling functions that would otherwise be imposed by tribal governments. The agency has since determined that the information collections require OMB approval under a strict reading of the Paperwork Reduction Act regulations; therefore, in its discretion, it estimated the information collection burdens, resulting in an adjustment increasing burden hours.
