T ITLE OF INFORMATION COLLECTION:

2017 SmartCheck Message Testing – In Person Focus Groups



PURPOSE:

The purpose of this qualitative research is to gather information that will help the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission create and refine effective messaging for its SmartCheck initiative that aims to help investors avoid financial fraud. The testing will include a review of specific words and phrases as well as the look and feel of SmartCheck materials and www.SmartCheck.gov in context of the campaign as a whole.



DESCRIPTION OF RESPONDENTS:

  • Men and women

  • Ages 50-65

  • Household Income of $60,000+

  • Very or somewhat likely to be involved in household investment decisions

We will hold focus groups in the Baltimore, MD and New York areas. For the Baltimore groups, the vendor has a database of people that they will contact to determine if they meet the requirements for the focus group. In addition, the vendor could also leverage referrals, social media, and grassroots efforts to identify participants. For the New York groups, the vendor has a panel of respondents covering many demographics and they will use that network to find the respondents that meet the focus group requirements.
