Dear Resident:

Your household was randomly selected from households in eight counties in North Carolina and South Carolina to participate in a study of resident values, attitudes, and perceptions related to offshore wind energy development.

The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) is responsible for the development of offshore wind energy along the outer continental shelf of the United States. In carrying out this responsibility, BOEM works to identify, monitor, and mitigate possible negative impacts that might result from such development projects. To this end, BOEM would like to understand how the importance of place, along with social values, influences residential perception about the impacts of offshore wind, as well as level of support or opposition to these developments. Therefore, NOAA’s National Centers for Coastal Ocean Science (NCCOS) is conducting this survey of North Carolina and South Carolina residents to help BOEM answer these questions.

We would like to invite the person in the household over the age of 18 who most recently celebrated a birthday to complete the survey and return it to us within five business days. It will take about XX minutes to take the survey. Just complete the survey, place it into the self-addressed stamped envelope, and return by regular postal service. Your participation in this survey is extremely important, but is completely voluntary. Your answers will never be attributed to you as an individual. They will be confidential.

If you have questions about the survey or would like to be notified when the final report of study findings becomes available, please feel free to contact me using the information below.
