National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES)

Advance Transportation Allowance (Adults 18+) Project Description

Eligibility: Low income NHANES head of household participants age 18 and over who have already completed the home interview and having already scheduled a MEC appointment which falls in the last 2 weeks at a given NHANES location.

Informed Consent: No additional consents other than the regular NHANES consents are needed.

Exclusion Criteria: Participants who are not low income, have not completed the household interview, and who do not have MEC appointments in the last 2 weeks at a given NHANES location are excluded. Also, interviewers who are not comfortable carrying cash in certain circumstance (such as safety or other concerns) will not be required to offer the advance transportation allowance in those instances.

Project Procedures: NHANES participants meeting the criteria above in the “eligibility” section will be offered the standard NHANES transportation allowance in the home, after completion of the household interviews. This is just a change in when the allowance is offered. There is no change to the amount of the allowance or to participant burden.
