Appendix A Correspondence with IPEDS Keyholders and Coordinators
Dear IPEDS Keyholders and Coordinators:
The National Center for Education Statistics (NCES), part of the U.S. Department of Education, is currently updating the Classification of Instructional Programs (CIP). As part of this process, we are soliciting proposals for new CIP Codes from IPEDS keyholders and coordinators.{We are particularly interested in hearing from your institution because a large number of completions, which were reported under a “99” code, suggest that a new CIP code is needed}1. Your participation in this process is voluntary and greatly appreciated.
In approximately two weeks you will receive an email from Dr. Allan Joseph Medwick ([email protected]), a contractor who will be administering the survey on behalf of NCES. The email will contain a personalized link to an online survey where you can submit suggestions for new CIP Codes for possible inclusion in the 2020 CIP.
NCES will be soliciting suggestions for new CIP Codes for approximately 45 days. After March 15th the online survey will no longer be available and NCES will no longer accept suggestions for new CIP codes. A technical review panel will review all suggestions for CIP Codes during a June 2018 meeting and an updated electronic version of the 2020 Classification of Instructional Programs is expected in 2019. NCES will contact IPEDS keyholders and coordinators to let them know when the updated CIP is available for review.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding this process, you can contact NCES by email at [email protected].
Thank you for your attention in this matter,
Michelle Coon
